•    Marshals, stage directors, safety car drivers, FIV drivers, and medical and rescue personnel trained and ready for Rally Guanajuato Corona 2018.

Rally Guanajuato Corona is known for being one of the safest in the world and its highly skilled personnel receive ongoing training to keep them up to date on the latest emergency response techniques and technology available around the world.

With any event on this scale comes a huge responsibility and everyone involved in its organisation is extremely important to its success, which is why, every year, the question of safety both off and on the roads is looked at with the help of doctors, firefighters and indeed the entire team.

In the run-up to Rally Mexico, the third event of the World Rally Championship (WRC) season, those in charge of spectator safety attended a training workshop in Mexico City, a “Mini Rally” if you will, at which they were given theoretical courses on medical procedures and rescue protocols in the event of an accident.

Rally Guanajuato Corona 2018 Medical Director, Pablo Escalera, explained that the event also looked at various extrication techniques useful for doctors, paramedics and rescuers.

“Two types of extrication techniques were practised, semi-fast and fast, the type implemented depending on the severity of the accident. The exercises were held in a car set up to simulate the conditions of a competition car, and all of the attendees were given the chance to practise the techniques,” he said.

Escalera also stressed that an event of this magnitude has a whole range of tools at its disposal that enable the safety personnel to carry out their work effectively, including IVs (intervention vehicles) fitted with state-of-the-art equipment that ensures a quick and timely response whenever required.

“We have intervention vehicles that are driven by experienced rally drivers and crewed by specialist doctors and paramedics, as well as being equipped with all the necessary medical equipment, all of which complies to international standards,” he concluded.

The ongoing training provided to all those responsible for safety at the event ensures that Rally Mexico is one of the safest in the world, and what better way to keep it in safe Mexican hands than to have them continue to specialize in the latest techniques every year.
